A belated ride report this week... was it because yesterday seemed to be a day in Watermelon Sugar? Or maybe I just ran out of time to get it together! Whatever the reason, the ride itself was a fun one and we had a nice group of four taking part in the Sprinter Special II outing.
The first part of the of the trip was all bike, as we headed out over Lake Hodges and then over to Harmony Grove and Elfin Forest. The riding there was, as always, a nice combo of hills, descents, good road, low traffic, oak trees, and rural vistas. Leaving San Elijo Hills we headed towards the coast on some new roads for VVV: Alga Road and Aviara Parkway. Those two also presented some nice rollers to keep it interesting as we headed towards the coast. We should have turned on Poinsettia, Lane but passed it and took Palomar Airport Road instead... OK, but we cheated oourselves out of 1.5 miles of coastal views! Part two of the ride was super easy - hop onto the Sprinter and get hauled back to Escondido. The Sprinter has to be the greatest transportation bargain in Socal: $1.00 for the trip from Oceanside to Escondido. OK, that's the Senior Fare, but I think it's just $2.00 for young whippersnappers. I was going to take some train pix, but instead found an excellent set from a SpokkerJones that exactly capture the ride: Sprinter Photos. BTW, I should point out that while Bob, Mike, and I took the Sprinter home, the intrepid Beth, ever in need of additional miles (?) cycled back: Good on ya, mate! Next week, it is once again time for the... ACHD Ride Date: Tuesday January 3, 2012 Time: 9:00am Anything Can Happen Day. Group choice for route... Usually easy?? Cheers and Happy New Year! Steve

I got home 10 minutes after Bob and only 20 extra miles. It's all about burning off those holiday calories - a battle I'm losing ...
