A compact group, Mary Ann, Les, and me, got to start into the fog for an expanded version of the Lilac-n-Back ride today. Lots of grey mist early on, but it didn't last that long. At least, not long enough to provide any cooling effect when we made the climb up to Valley Center. Hmmm... maybe if I hadn't added on that exploratory side-trip down Reed Road trying to ferret out the back-way to Hidden Trails?
After passing through Valley Center, it was clear skies all the way, and soon enough we were zipping along Lilac and West Lilac. New strip mall construction on Lilac Road might mean better choices for refueling in the future. We decided on the Circle R option to get down to Old 395, but had to moderate our descent for a bit of road work. Down at the All Seasons campground store it was getting warm, and icy fruit pops and cold drinks were perfect for cooling off. I guess we could have waited a bit to grab beverages from the huge Fat Tire Ale truck that pulled in as we were leaving, but we had to "Follow Our Folly: Riding Bikes."
Finished up with a peppy climb up Champagne Blvd and a quick descent through Jesmond Dene before transiting Escondido and Lake Hodges.
Next week we'll be riding on... The Old Milk Run Date: Tuesday September 25, 2012 Time: 8:00am Foray into the San Pasqual Valley and the eastern Escondido hills.
