We started out with a nice group of nine cyclists for the Birria Or Bust route and got to welcome another new rider: Susan. Everyone seemed ready for it to be colder than it actually was today, but since we started with a long downhill to Lake Hodges the layers didn't start getting packed away until Escondido.
At Jesmond Dene we had to part company with the time-constrained: Liz , Mike and Mary Ann. They got to shoot down through the oaks without the work of the hills on Old 395 - seems like having dessert without finishing your veggies to me!
Navigation was beyond easy on this ride: just keep riding north, over any and all hills that spring up in front of you, until you see the Pala Taco Shop. Along the way, we discovered that the gigantic mass of highway construction that was going on in Bonsall for the last few years has now largely relocated to the Old 395/I-15 interchange. Expect that to be there for awhile.
The taco shop fare was delish, as always, but there will soon be competition for our ride lunch: the M&M Rib Shack is slated to open next door in January. Who knows... we may have to change the ride name to Rib Shack-n-Back.
Our ride next week is short and sweet: Java Journey Date: Tuesday November 27, 2012 Time: 8:30am Out-n-Back to Valley Center with a stop at Java Journey. Just one kicker of a hill...
