The call of duty kept me from the VVV ride today, but Mary Ann filled-in to supply a ride report:
"Today was a wonderful example of a VVV ACHD ride. The crew consisted of Me (Mary Ann), Bob and Beth and a new rider, Alma, from Connecticut, who promises to come back next time she spends the winter in SD. Poor Steve got stuck in the court house downtown fulfilling his civic duty. Beth surprised us by showing up with a new foldable bike by Tern. Even with only 7 gears and wearing her sneakers, she can still dust me on the hills without breathing very hard. I started the day at a disadvantage with a very low back tire. I hoped for the best but this gave us a reason to route past Black Mountain Bikes for a quick change, while Beth did some shopping for a water bottle cage for her new ride, and a few other necessities. The weather was darn near perfect, and though I had hoped for a flat-ish route, we ended up mounting the hill between Poway Rd and Scripps Poway and then the Black Mountain Hill up to the 56 on the way north. A true bummel of a ride, (try looking that up) with decisions made on the fly as to the route. No time to stop for a smackerel today. Here's the exact route: http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/80602211/?open_ive_done=1&new_route=1"
Yup, that sounds like "Anything Can Happen Day" alright. Not mentioned was Lizzie having to turn back before even reaching VV Park due to a bike mechanical, and that we missed out on Rick joining the ride due to some late text messages. Oh well, we keep riding as best we can!
I'm subject to jury duty for an entire month, but hopeful about being able to join in on next week's ride...
