We totaled three riders today: Beth, Bob, and me. It seemed like we'd be six riders at the start when we met cyclists from BSA Troop 680 at the park. I even knew one of the riders, but it turned out that they were there for a different training ride. We took the opportunity for an interesting discussion of the latest trends in lightweight backpacking before pedaling out!
Our route was a nice combination of hills and flats that generally traveled around Escondido. We started out over Lake Hodges and went along the eastern Escondido hills on Summit Drive. After zipping along El Norte Parkway, it was time to take in some northern scenery with hills on Ash Street and Jesmond Dene Road. Following that we made a quick drop down to San Marcos on Deer Springs Road, which set us up for the big hill at Twin Oaks Valley Road. The descent on the other side was thrilling as always.
The ride out of San Elijo Hills on Elfin Forest Road included a dirt trail section to get around some road work (it just wouldn't have been ACHD without something unanticipated.) After getting through the Elfin Forestoak canopy section, we finished up with some new road (Country Club Lane) to connect back to Harmony Grove Road.
Next week we'll try to do the... Highland Valley Loop Date: Tuesday July 10, 2012 Time: 8:30am Scenic riding on Highland Valley Road, with plenty of hills.
