The route today was a bit free-form, it was advertised as the Rancho Santa Fe Ramble, but the so-called "ride leader" forgot that we were supposed to include Artesian/Zumaque. Not that a couple of folks didn't try to gently suggest to him that we should go that way. :-) What the heck, we still put in plenty of climbing, rolled on some pretty roads, and got involved with a coyote rescue. Well, at least Mike got involved. He put his animal handling skills into action and managed to put an injured coyote on a leash until County Animal Control arrived.
We took a break at Caffe Positano in Rancho Santa Fe, but rolled back down the hill to collect Mike from his coyote tending. So we paid our dues with extra climbing and were happy that Mike didn't have to pay with a bite on his leg! This week's ridership: 11 Cyclists (3W / 8M) Next week we begin the dog days of August with the... Wildcard Ride Date: Tuesday August 5, 2014 Time: 9:00am Group choice for route. Cheers, Steve

Thanks all of you who were able to come back for me. The only way I knew out of that maze of country roads to Poway was via Del Dios Hwy, something I really didn't want to do today.

I just heard from the Wildlife Center where I work. The coyote was transported in by Animal Control and it will now be treated. It has a severe concussion, which is why its balance was way off but no broken bones. Time will tell if it recovers enough to be released. I'll see it tomorrow when I go in.

If he makes it, I bet that pup will give the next car a wide berth.

We would never leave you out there to find your back. And it was way too hot to be wandering alone!
