Awesome turnout for today's riding of the Highland Valley Loop, even though some rebels formed a B Group for a gentler version: namely no Scripps Poway Parkway, no Mount Woodson, and no Highland Valley... hmmm, maybe they need the Mountain Tamer Quad pictured in today's slideshow! :-)
At least the Breakaway Group had a cafe stop, but no such luck for the full route riders... some entrepreneur needs to open a Starbucks out by Archie Moore Road for us. I'm sure all the parents dropping off or picking up kids at Mount Woodson Elementary could use a convenient frappuccino stop! This week's ridership: 17 Cyclists (7W / 10M) Yikes, October is here and so is the... Wildcard Ride Date: Tuesday October 7, 2014 Time: 9:00am Scenic riding along Highland Valley Road, with plenty of hills. Cheers, Steve

After completing his post-crash rehab, Jerry was back in the saddle for today's E Z 30 route, rolling on a Stan's Alpha ZTR 340 which he laced himself. The man has DIY talent... and he also treated us to a few hill sprints... hmmm, he's been training in secret maybe?
Beth and Bob, returning from the Eastern Wilds, also made their first VVV appearance in way too long, with Bob doing some amazing rehab efforts of his own. And there was also a first-time VVV Rider to welcome today: Ron R. Ron's not new to cycling however, and has many years of experience on two wheels. Thanks to Everyone for not complaining that I added a few miles to the route today... gotta do a better job of memorizing the plan! No cafe stop this week... not hot enough I guess?!? This week's ridership: 14 Cyclists (5W / 9M) Next week we close out September with the classic... Highland Valley Loop Date: Tuesday September 30, 2014 Time: 9:00am Scenic riding along Highland Valley Road, with plenty of hills. Cheers, Steve Today's Java Journey ride was quite the gentlemanly affair: an easy rolling start, no impromptu sprints, and just a hint of power production on the climb up to Valley Center. It's time to get Jerry Gee back to spark a few breakaways!
Oh well, I for one did not let the lack of Strava PR production keep me from enjoying a cold, calorie-laden, Polar Cap at Java Journey... gotta maintain standards after all. This week's ridership: 9 Cyclists (2W / 7M) And next week's ride ups the effort level... Escondido Hills Date: Tuesday September 16, 2014 Time: 9:00am Climb some of Escondido's hidden hills; featuring La Honda Drive up to Dixon Lake. Cheers, Steve The Wildcard Ride was reportedly a good one today... and a certain ride leader was missing, too. Hmmm... could there be a connection? I hope not, 'cuz he'll be back next week!
Thanks to Mary Ann for the write-up... "Slow (<13mph ave.) and steady ~36 miles. A nice cool breeze on the way down to the coast, but a little roasty, toasty coming back. No mechanicals or other calamities. Rob tried out a carbon Trek Domane and seemed to really enjoy its ride and response. Made a quick stop at the NY Deli on Vista Sorrento Pkwy." And many thanks to Judy for supplying the ride pix, and for introducing us to those noise reducing Cat Ears today! This week's ridership: 7 Cyclists (3W / 4M) Next week's ride is the ever-popular... Java Journey Date: Tuesday September 9, 2014 Time: 9:00am Out-n-Back to Valley Center with a stop at Java Journey. Cheers, Steve |
