A great day to ride, made all the better by the appearance of the long-absent Mary Ann, Colleen, and Susan. A big boost for the Ladies contigent today!
The route was the delightful Woods Valley & Lake Wohlford: a decent amount of climbing, pleasant oak-lined roads, good views, and a fast and twisty descent. What more could we want? Well, maybe a fried egg sandwich at the Lake Wohlford Cafe, but today was not one of those stop-and-smell-the-roses rides. So, alas... no cafe stop!
Kudos to Jerry for flatting in the parking lot at Valle Verde. It's so much easier to do repairs there rather than on the road! :-) And Double Kudos to Sean for his amazing recovery on the Lake Wohlford descent: dealing with loose sand, concrete barrier, and wild bike gyrations without taking out the four riders rocketing down the hill behind him... Priceless!

Fortunately there was no RAAM diversion this Tuesday and our ridership bounced back to an even dozen for the Del Dios Loop. The route brought us back to the area of the Bernardo Fire, and there's still plenty of blackened ground and ash out past Del Sur. Most of the scenery out on San Dieguito and up to Rancho Santa Fe is fully intact though, and the Del Dios/Lake Hodges area is as scenic as always. And as hilly!
We welcomed two new riders: Joel, who was invited to ride with us by Eduardo, and Christian, a friend of Jerry's, who is visiting from Texas. Jerry and Chris, got off to a late start and had to "head us off at the pass", which turned out to be Escondido. Too bad they missed out on our stop at EscoGelato. :-(
This week's ridership: 12 Cyclists (3W / 9M)

Scenic riding with plenty of hills!
Did the start of RAAM cut down on this week's ridership? I'm voting Yes on that question. The starting group was a mere four cyclists, but en-route joinees did swell that number by 50%. Not that our compact peloton had any reason to complain: weather was perfect - mostly cool, just warming up at the end, and no pesky wind!
The climb up to Valley Center was, as always, an enjoyable one, and throughout the town, and at Java Journey, we found plenty of purple ribbons to promote the American Cancer Society Relay For Life which will be held on June 21.
This week's ridership: 6 Cyclists (0W / 6M)
It's been awhile since we saw the dam, but we're getting back to it next week...

Out to Fairbanks Ranch, back on the Del Dios, with a coffee (or gelato?) stop in Escondido.
The group choice for today's Wildcard Ride found us heading west towards Torrey Highlands to connect with the 56 Bike Path, which provided our return route. We had to get past a road-blocking moving truck, and lots of new road work west of Rancho Bernardo, but we did it in snappy fashion, maintaining around 15mph average speed, and getting back to Valle Verde Park before 11:30. No coffee stop...but we will have one next week... guaranteed!
New VVV rider Kim made the most of her debut ride by posting a boatload of Strava Top Tens and a QOM. Way to go Kim!
