Blue skies and perfect cycling conditions for today's crew (Mary Ann, Mike P., and me) as we completed a relaxed riding of the Del Dios Loop.
There must be some economic improvement under way because there were road work signs along Camino Del Sur, San Dieguito Road, Del Dios Highway, and Pomerado Road.
Oh well, the work didn't distract too much from the enjoyment of pedaling on such a great day, and we still managed to enjoy the vistas, mansions, trees, horses, climbs, descents, and a coffee stop at Belen Bakery.
Next week, it will again be time for the...

Anything Can Happen Day. Group choice for route... Usually easy??
Lingering clouds atop Mount Woodson
Yikes! How does it happen that a semi-retired guy doesn't manage to get his ride report published on time? Probably due to the relativistic effects of time but that explanation is sooo 20th century. Let's just admit that boomer retirement time is more like Aloha Time!
Anyhooo, the return from Winter Break was well-timed as the weather yesterday was perfect and we just managed to miss the Monday downpours. Ridership was good too: Shawna, Mike, Jerry, Les, Bernie, Les and me. Big Welcome to Bernie and I hope he makes it out to more of our rides.
The ride had a couple of unplanned stops for flat repairs which turned out to be due to a sliced tire. Fortunately Bernie actually was carrying an extra tire to save the day. I have to find out if he was ever a Boy Scout! The climbs on Scripps Poway Parkway, over Mount Woodson, and along Highland Valley Road, provided plenty of challenge for us. And, as always, the twisty descents on HVR were thrilling.
Next week, we have a nice little effort...
Del Dios Loop
Date: Tuesday January 31, 2012
Out to Fairbanks Ranch, back on the Del Dios, with a coffee stop in Escondido.
A late report today, hmmm... funny how non-cycling reality sometimes intrudes upon True Bike Life, but better late than never, so here goes...
It was a good start to the day's outing with a large contingent of seven riders: Matt, Jerry, Robert, Mike, Bob & Beth, and me. Whew, that's already taxing my memory! We went out of RB and headed for Black Mountain to be sure of gettting some extra hills (kidding), and then whipped down to San Dieguito Road. Unfortunately, that was where Mike flatted and learned what the "Blood Test" is... Ouch, a nasty piece of glass, that he found when checking the tire, resulted in a deep cut and a lot of blood getting smeared around. He wisely opted for a trip back to start with Robert accompanying him while I rode on to meet up with the rest of the group, which was waiting further on down the road.
I rolled up to find that Matt was on a mission and long gone, and so we went from a group of seven to just four in rather short order. The remainder of the crew tackled the ride up to Rancho Santa Fe and did the SDBC "Stud Loop" before climbing the Del Dios Highway. After that, Bob and Beth dropped off to head home, while Jerry and I continued on and made a welcome stop at Nayeli's Taco Shop. Mmmm, Mmmm, Mmmm!
Next week's ride...
No Ride !
What??? No ride....? Well, maybe - maybe not... I'll be in Rhode island for the next two weeks, so... no "scheduled" rides for Jan 10 or Jan 17! BUT: I encourage the group to use the VVV email forum to arrange some ad-hoc rides, Tuesday or otherwise. Regular rides will resume on Jan 24, until then...
